Rejoice Of Monarch is an American Morgan Horse mare who excels in trail riding.  She is fifteen years old and stands 14.3 hands.

“Rae” as we call her here has an impressive pedigree which parallels some of Daniel Dawson’s. She was bred and born at the Monarch Morgan Farm in Payson, Utah.  She was shown once as a yearling at the Morgan Medallion Show in yearling filly placing third

Her prior two owners used her for trail riding in the Phoenix Arizona area.

I am using her for trail riding here in the Prescott area and so far she is proving to be very reliable.

As we get better acquainted with each other I will post information on the web-site.

Scampi’s Silver Fox, born May 15, 2016,  is my up and coming driving sport pony.  The cross between my Hackney mare SBF Shrimp Scampi and his sire Teignhead King of Clubs, who is a Dartmoor Pony, is proving to be a great combination.  Silver’s sire is contributing more bulk and he definitely has the mind of his mother.

Silver is now four months old and is a very independent little guy. I have just separated him from his mom and he has taken it in stride.  Next week the veterinarian will be out to geld him and remove his wolf teeth if they are showing.  When Silver is about eighteen months I will start ground driving him in preparation for his upcoming cart work.  Follow Silver’s as he grows up and watch how his training comes along in the future.

Triton St Nick is an American Morgan Horse gelding , standing 14.1 hand .  He is the most recently acquired horse here at the Davis Ranch. I purchased Triton St Nick in 2014 for his driving ability, even though he had not been driven in a number of years.   He was born and trained to ride and drive by Triton Morgans out of California. He was shown by them in western pleasure, hunt seat and sport horse.

Since 2004 Triton St Nick has been used as a trail horse both in California and for bout six years in Hawaii.   After coming back from Hawaii his previous owner rode him on trails in the Lake Tahoe area and Big Bear mountains of California.

Since Triton St Nick arrived here in Prescott I have put some much needed weight on him and have put him back in cart.  I well also be using him as a trail riding horse for myself.

As soon as Triton St Nick is ready I will be using him as one of my horses to teach new students to drive.  Nicky as he is know in the barn is a very quiet and easy going guy.  He is now seventeen so he is perfect to use as a student horse.

Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy is a Friesian Sporthorse, FSHA (Friesian Sporthorse Association) and FHH (Friesian Heritage Horse) 16.1 hand gelding, which I have had since he was three year old.  He came to me via an Amish Farm in Wisconsin, an auction in Denver, CO, and a driving ranch in Las Cruces, NM.

Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy was young and not yet grown into himself, and it would take another three years before we would try our first CDE (Combined Driving Event). I competed in six events in 2009 in training division and did quite well, but he was still growing into maturity. The following year we moved up to preliminary division and by the end of 2011 we were doing advanced work.

I competed in one event in March of 1012 then took the next twenty months off due to my husbands health issues.  I then managed one event in November 2013.  I competed at intermediate level because of the time off and we placed second at this event.   Although not competing was hard, I think that the time off had given Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy a chance to physically finish growing to his current 16.1 hands.   Even better it had given his mind a chance to finish growing up too.

In May of 2014 I head to northern California for the Vineyard Classic for Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy first major CDE in several years. Dressage went well but we were confronted with a major waterfall on the marathon course and Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy was having nothing to do with it so we had to retire. Later in the year we did an ADT and he did quite well there.

For 2015 we planned a trip to the east coast to be able to get some major competing under Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy belt.  After six events over a 2 1/2 month period Pinegrove’s Sailor Boy had finally learned to be calm around all of the strange things that go on at major events. We placed well at all of the events. Read about our trip in another post.

I purchased Silver Wampum in 1978 when he was just six months old.  He was the horse I had always dreamed of having, an Arabian.  Initially he was to be my trail horse so that is what we did for the next six years.  We rode the trails all across Southern California.  Then in 1986 I was in an auto accident that pretty much put an end to my riding.  This is when I decided to teach Silver Wampum how to drive.  I was lucky enough to live close to the late Anita Mellot and her beautiful Friesians and was able to go to her to learn about driving.

Silver Wampum was the start of my driving career.  He turned out to be a natural at driving and I showed him for the first time at the San Diego Open Driving Show in 1990 where we took a 1st, 5th and 4th in our driving classes.  Our first official ADT (Arena Driving Trail) was the Old Pueblo in Tucson, AZ  in 1995 where we placed 2nd.

Aside from competing in CDE events in both California and Arizona he has shown in many shows both in San Diego and Phoenix, where he was high point winner in his division two years in a row at the Arizona Driving Festival.

He has participated in many parades over the years as well as carrying many brides to their weddings. Silver Wampum had a role in a TV commercial for an upscale ladies boutique in Palm Springs and has served as a model for the Petsmart store in Palm Desert, and is the only horse that was named pet of the month by Petsmart. Aside from driving he is an accomplished trail horse and has taken me to places like Havasupi in the Grand Canyon, Willie Boy Ride, Phoenix to Wickenburg Ride, Palm Springs to Joshua Tree and Man Against Horse Race. He has also served as my mount for four years while on the Riverside County Sheriff’s Posse search and rescue.

We did many more competitions, fun drives and yes some trails rides over the next five years. Silver Wampum did his last CDE (Combined Driving Event) at the age of 20 and earned the Best Arabian award.  At the age of 22 Wampum left the world knowing that he was loved and cherished. Silver Wampum will always be remembered for his ability to adjust to any situation.

Spragues Orion Royale Herbie or Snoopy as he is called around the barn is an AMHA & AMHR (American Miniature Horse) gelding that stands 31″ tall.  I purchased Spragues Orion Royale Herbie as a foal and have had him his whole life. I guess you can call him the patriarch of the ranch as he turned 21 this year.  One would think that these little ones would not be good for much, but don’t let their size deceive you.  They are a very versatile breed.  I started showing Snoopy in hand when he was two years old.  He always placed in the top five in his classes. By the time he was three he was driving and he proved to be very good at it.

Over the years he has won many Pleasure Driving Classes as well as Obstacle Driving classes. When Spragues Orion Royale Herbie was four he did his first CDE (Combined Driving Event) with his then partner Sedona.  I drove this pair for five years and then finally in 2007 the American Driving Society  recognized Miniature Horses in Combined Driving. Spragues Orion Royale Herbieis very versatile, he is my lead horse in pairs, tandem and four-in-hand.  When his other team mates didn’t want to go something (like through water) all I have to do is tell him to go and if he had to he would pull the rest through.

Spragues Orion Royale Herbie was my driving horse in a Miniature Horse Drill Team for many years, doing parades and driving demonstrations.

I still drive Snoopy but now just for the fun of it.  His favorite thing to do now is as a therapy horse visiting nursing homes and children’s library programs here in the Prescott area.

SBF Shrimp Scampi is a Hackney/Pinto, 12 hand pony mare. I purchased her as a five year old because I was impressed with her driving ability.  At the time she was in foal for the third time in three years.  After her foal was born and weaned I started her back in harness, and you would not have even known that she had not been driven since she was two.

I took her to her first ADT (Arena Driving Trail) in September 2006 where we placed 5th.  Since then I have competed with SBF Shrimp Scampi in CDE’s (Combined Driving Events) in Arizona and California. SBF Shrimp Scampi has done quite well all the way through Intermediate level, but due to her size, competing with her at advanced is not an option, as she cannot keep up with the larger 14.2 hand ponies.  For the past few years I have used her for student lessons which she has done very well at.

Last year (1015) I decided to breed SBF Shrimp Scampi to get a Sportpony.  She was bred to “Teignhead King of Clubs” a Dartmoor pony from Germany.  I have always liked Dartmoor ponies but they are really hard to obtain here in the United States.  I had the opportunity to drive several of them back a few years and I found them to be very solid and level headed.  I am hoping to get a foal with SBF Shrimp Scampi personality and more of the bulk from the sire.  Watch for pictures sometime in May.

Daniel Dawson was an American Morgan Horse and  my Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) horse. I  competed in New Jersey at the last qualifying competition for the Show Ring Driving team that would go to the World Singles Championship in Italy in 2006. Daniel Dawson and I did not make the team but we were in the top 16 drivers in the United States.

Daniel Dawson and I over the course of six years competed at thirty- two events across the United States. We went as far north as Washington and as far east as New Jersey.  We traveled across the United States twice while trying for the 2006 World Singles Team. Daniel Dawson spent his last couple of years in retirement at a beautiful facility in the La Sal mountains in Colorado.
